Safe States Alliance Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
Do you want to engage in injury and violence prevention opportunities with other professionals who share your interests?
If so, then join a Safe States Alliance Special Interest Group (SIG) today!
What are SIGs?
SIGs are forums for Safe States Alliance members who share similar interests or specialties in the field of injury and violence prevention. They provide members with an opportunity to exchange ideas and stay informed about current developments in their fields. Unlike Safe States Alliance Committees which are created and governed by Safe States Alliance’s Bylaws and Executive Committee, SIGs are semi-autonomous networks created and maintained by members themselves.
Current Safe States Alliance SIGs include:
Why Should I Join?
SIGs allow Safe States Alliance members to pursue narrower, substantive special interests through an organized forum in order to:
- Exchange ideas and share professional activities and studies through meetings, publications, training, and other organized activities;
- Provide advice to the Safe States Alliance’s Executive Committee on matters pertaining to the group’s special interest or area;
- Organize technical programs for such interests and areas for web-based and in-person professional development;
- Gather and share information concerning its special interest;
- Represent Safe States Alliance through national activities the request of Safe States Alliance’s Executive Committee; and
- Explore creative ways to engage other members in an area of special interest.
Who is Eligible?
All Safe States Alliance members are eligible to become members of SIGs. Members can belong to as many SIGs as desired.
How Can I Create or Join a SIG?
Creating or joining a SIG is easy. Members interested in creating a SIG should submit an application to the SIG Committee that includes the signatures from at least five members (who must represent more than one state); contact information for the chair and vice-chair of the proposed SIG; a short description of the SIG including: name, acronym (if applicable), purpose and scope of interest; and a brief description of the potential activities planned for the year.

Who Oversees the SIGs?
The Safe States Alliance SIG Oversight Council, a formal Safe States Alliance Committee, will serve as the coordinating body for all SIGs and will manage the collective affairs of the SIGs. SIGs are entitled and encouraged to identify themselves with Safe States Alliance through the use of the Safe States Alliance name and logo, with proper approval.
